He is Faithful to Perform

If you find yourself in a place where you are waiting on God to perform anything in your life, I encourage you to take a moment to read this.

“All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.”

Psalm 25:10, NIV.

There are two themes throughout the entire Bible that are extremely important: first, God is powerful beyond measure, and second, He always does exactly what he says he will do. God’s nature has not changed since Biblical times. We serve the same God who spoke to Moses. We serve the same God who parted the Red Sea. We serve the same God that made manna fall from Heaven. We serve the same God who provided for Elijah through a bird. We serve the same God that empowered a man to walk on water. This God who performed miracles and defied the logic of what we are able to understand as possible, who did things beyond our wildest imaginations, is the same God who wakes you up in the morning today. He is the same God that helps you through the largest and even the smallest struggles you endure. I say all of this to say, because we serve the same God who did what He said He would do every single time then, then He will do exactly what He said He would do in your life today. Not only that, but there is no single thing too hard for God to perform. Not only will He do it, He can do it.

Faithfulness is God’s nature. He must be faithful because it is who he is.

It is important for you to know that God is powerful enough to perform His word no matter what it looks like to you. God is not limited by anything. He is not limited by the reasons you think it can’t happen. He is a logic-defying God. He’ll do it in a way that you never thought was possible. That is, by definition, what makes a miracle a miracle.

While I want you to know that God is powerful enough to perform the thing He placed in your heart, that’s not what I want you to focus on. Performance of his promises is His work; obedience is ours. Look again at the verse in Psalm 25. The ways of the Lord are loving and faithful “toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.” This refers to obedience. Our obedience is what allows us to access the things God has prepared for us. To obey God means to faithfully follow the instructions He has given even when it doesn’t make sense, even when your emotions say otherwise, and even when it’s hard. God’s instructions are found throughout his written word and they are also found in the specific words He has given you.

When the Holy Spirit takes up residence in you, there will be a shift. God prepares you through your smallest habits. What have you been urged to let go of? What are the things you know in your heart you should be doing more of? What are the character traits that God has been after for years now? I encourage you to spend some time thinking about what God has specifically instructed you to do that you may have missed. You may be believing that God isn’t answering you when this entire time He has been trying to prepare you for what He has promised you but you simply don’t obey.

Obedience doesn’t come from a place of performing for God or others - doing things because you think they are right or because you think it’s what a “good Christian” does. Obedience flows from you as a response to a relationship you have cultivated with God. You do what He says because you love Him. You do what He says because He has shown you that you can trust Him. You do what He says because He is the only one that sees your entire life from start to finish and knows precisely what is best for you.

“Will he do it?” should no longer be the question. “Let me prepare myself so that I will be ready when he does it” should be the declaration.

Lord, how can I obey you today?” “What is one small thing I can practice today?

You don’t have to transform overnight; transformation comes little by little. Each day, little by little, I hope you begin seeking out God’s instructions for your life so that you can be prepared for the exceedingly and abundantly He has in store for you.
